Chapter Three
I do not go to many sites on the internet, but for the ones I do visit, I usually tend to type in the full name of the site and not the URL with it. In fact, most of the sites I visit are given a high ranking to when they appear in the results page, mainly Amazon or YouTube because I enjoy browsing those two sites to find something interesting to me. Throughout the classes I have been taking at college, there will be times when an instructor will give me a link to a site regarding a project I had to work on, so that I would not have to go through the hardship of getting the proper information out of countless sites. Also, there were times when I had to view a PDF file, which I thankfully do not need to download, to read the directions for a particular project and there were times I had to create a document as a PDF file to submit it to the instructor. I have grown used to creating and submitting projects into PDFs because it is easy to do and is available to view on any browser. HTML files can also be viewed on any browser, but those files are not considered a website until it is put through the procedure of making it into one.
When I took the class called Web Page Design, I had to recreate a website that dealt with a poor visual design, so I decided on a site that I originally worked on for a previous class to fix it and that was the one and only oyster and chop house that has been in business for over a century called Gage and Tollner. Even though this business has been lasting for so long, it is no excuse for the designers to not keep up with the times for the design, especially when there are grammar errors within the menu of their site. I have not seen many sites that are low quality besides the one for Skateaway over in Wilkes-Barre, but when I looked at Gage and Tollner’s site, it is no wonder why I had to redesign their site twice, one time when I took WordPress, and another time on Dreamweaver when I took Web Page Design to give it more of a modern feel. Unfortunately, I doubt that anyone over at Gage and Tollner will even bother to fix all the mistakes put into the site they posted even though there are plenty of people out in the world with lots of coding experience to get the job done. Honestly, I would not be surprised if someone decides to look up locations to nearby chop houses, and Gage and Tollner is never listed as a top ranked result when people look at a website that is terribly aged.
